0. Please note
--------------

* The setup files for version 1.4x, 1.5x and 1.6x are not
  compatible with newer versions. If you install version 1.7 you
  should delete them before running AE.
  

1. Bugs fixed
-------------

Version 1.7:

* Some minor corrections.

Version 1.61:

* Fixed bug which made Search & Replace with empty 
  replace-string very sloooow.

Version 1.51:

* Fixed silly new bug in version 1.5 which limited max file size 
  to 32k.

Version 1.5:

* The strange behavior when starting AE with a wildcarded file 
  name was a programming error. Sorry, should be better now.

* Block was not shown properly when the mark was on a line that 
  was on the screen, but on a column position off the screen.
  
* Very long file names would mess up the status line. They are 
  truncated now.

* Printing routine contained bugs that showed when using nonzero 
  top margin or left margin, and paged printing. Has been 
  rewritten.

  
2. Modifications
----------------

Version 1.7:

* Paste block (F8) now leaves cursor at first character after
  inserted block.

* Alt-W, Alt-L (delete word/line) and Ins (toggle
  insert/overwrite) now also work when entering a string on the
  status line.

* Setup can be saved in directories other than the current
  directory.

* 'Optimized screen redraw' (added in version 1.6) made switchable
  in setup. Default is off.

* Pressing Esc with cursor in normal text erases mark (like
  Shift-F5).

Version 1.61:

* If AE detects an end-of-file character in the middle of a 
  file, it asks the user if the file should be truncated (was: 
  always truncate).

Version 1.6:

* Changed screen redraw, to make it more acceptable on slower 
  PCs (XT compatibles). Redraw is now done partially if there 
  are keys in the key buffer.

* The SPLIT utility can also create chunks with a given number 
  of lines.

Version 1.5:

* Percentage indicator on status line now shows relative position 
  in the file (was: the amount of workspace that is full).

* Line breaking as-you-type now breaks the line at the proper
  position (was: at start of the last word before the cursor).

* Ctrl-left and Ctrl-right (go to previous/next word) now also
  work when entering a string on the status line.


3. Additions
------------

Version 1.7:

* 'W' option in search and replace, to look for whole words.

* Auto-wrap option, to do automatic reformatting of the current
  paragraph. Can be toggled in setup.

* Alt-U changes characters to upper case. If no block is
  selected, both Alt-T and Alt-U now change the case of the
  character under the cursor.

Version 1.61:

* AE now detects when a setup file that is loaded is incompatible.
  In that case, the default setup is used.

Version 1.6:

* Keyboard macros and unqueried replace can now be interrupted by
  pressing Escape.

* Info window, showing information about the files currently
  loaded (Alt-Q).

Version 1.5:

* Histories for file names and for search strings.

* Option to save the workspace in a file, to be reloaded when AE 
  is started again.


4. Known bugs
-------------

* On VGA screens, some cursor shapes are smaller than intended.
  I'll fix this when I know how to let the software distinguish
  between CGA/EGA and VGA.

* When the DOS command APPEND is used, the file list also shows
  files in the appended directory, but AE will not load them.

* AE can not read a file that has its write-protect attribute set
  (Error 'File access denied').
