Muslu is a big village or town which has 3 wards (villages) on 17 kilometers East of Zonguldak (as road distance; but, railway distance is 13 kilometers from Zonguldak). Population of Muslu is about 4000. Muslu is on sea side (Blacksea coast) of Zonguldak province. Zonguldak-Ankara railway and Zonguldak-Hisarönü (coast) road pass through Muslu. (Other name of Hisarönü is Filyos, which has an old castle since Genoa times. River of Filyos is on East of Filyos town. Filyos is on 13 km East of Muslu. ) (See filyos.html.) Western ward of Muslu is called as Kazköy. Center and East part of Muslu is Muslu village. Emirköy is a village in forest on South-East of Muslu. Kazköy and Emirköy villages included by Muslu as wards as official division. (Note: 'Köy' is village in Turkish. Sound of 'ö' is 'i' in 'dirt' word.) Since 1992, Muslu has municipality. (See muslu.html.) Kazköy is on West of Muslu, also it is on Çatalagzi (on West, and Kuzyaka village on South-West) border of Muslu. Çatalagzi is a famous town of Zonguldak province with (coal) mining installations and thermical power plants. Also, it has big train station with locomotive (direction) reversing and maintenance abilities. In fact, Çatalagzi Power Plants are on East of Çatalagzi, in Isikveren (in English, "electric giver") ward and exactly on West border of Muslu, of course, Kazköy. Old Çatalagzi Power Plant (120 MW) installed by 'Metropolitan Vickers' Company from England, in 1948. The new power plant (2*150 MW) installed by Japan (Mitsubishi), Hungarian, Turkish (Kutlutas) consortium. Old Çatalagzi Power Plant (which was running by coal powder from Çatalagzi coal installations) is the first thermical power plant of Republic of Turkey (after founding of Turkish Republic). Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey and the first republican president of Turkey, had decided to install a power plant in Zonguldak (Çatalagzi). But, the crisis just before the Second World War prevented building of Çatalagzi Power Plant. The second republican president, Ismet Inönü started that project again with same constructor company. So, Metropolitan Vickers started the installation in 1946. And completed it in 1948. Planned echonomical life of the plant was 20 years but Turks ran this plant about 40 years. Metropolitan Vickers had stopped their activities in England, but, they continued to supply spare parts (for steam turbines) till 1980s. (See ../417/ctspics.html, kucukagiz.html.) Kazköy has a coast on
Blacksea. But, due to coal powders and other dirt sources in the brook
water (Karadere, Black-Brook), Kazköy beach is not clean and it is not
very proper for swimming. Kazköy people (and other people from near
places) go to Akcisu (It is a very clean natural beach at behind of Kazköy
and Muslu. But, only by walking or sea way.) and Göbü beach (large and
clean beach in Göbü village, on 2-3 km East of Muslu) for swimming.
These places haven't got touristic buildings (hotels, motels, showers)
but camping (by tent) is proper and safe in Göbü and
Akcisu.
Akcisu has a water source but no shops for beer, beverages and eatings.
Göbü has simple restaurants, shops for various camping requirements.
Also, Göbü beach is proper for parking of cars. (See
akcisu.html, gobu.html.) Kazköy has dark forests on the South mountains. The North mountains (hills) have poor forest only with pine trees and bushes. On the South mountains, chestnut trees, hornbeams are widespread. Hazelnut trees are more. Also, corn is more. Black grape, cherry, plum, walnut, bean, cabbage, tomato, mulberry, blackberry, rose hip and other common blacksea fruits and vegetables are widespread in Kazköy. Some fruits like pomegranate, kiwifruit exist but not more. Also, in Kazköy brook, there are carp fish and many green frogs. A few sea fishers, fish by fishing line and net by small rowboats with diesel engines. Horse mackerel (scad) and whiting are common fishes. Turbot, red mullet, bluefish, bonito, striped (gray) mullet are caught but not more. Various butterflies, freshwater crabs, freshwater mussels, hedgehogs, bats, bees, various spiders and scorpions (rarely) exist in Kazköy. Population of Kazköy is about 1500-1800. Most of male people in Kazköy work in coal mining job, power plant and other state jobs also in municipal facilities as worker; or retired from those jobs. Other familes are farmer, small-scale retailer, craftsman, shepherd or rowboat fisher and so on. But many young people are unemployed and some of them work for other people for daily building, repairing jobs. Half of Kazköy people are religious people which fit muslim religion rules. Remain part, partially, young people who like drink, gamble, football (soccer) games and horse races. Raki is most common drink in Kazköy, after raki, beer and red wine are preferred. Most of Kazköy youngs are Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Besiktas fans (supporters). Of course, there are Zonguldakspor fans in the village. But, Zonguldakspor is not in the first professional football league of Turkey and it is not a competition factor between 1st league teams and their fans. There was a Kazköyspor football club which found in 1985. In 1998, Kazköyspor joined with it's internal rival Musluspor (which found in 1979). Now, the united club, Muslu Belediyespor (municipality supported football club of Muslu) continues it's activity in the first amateur league of Zonguldak. |
